【Plan 12】Fun Muslim Culture Experience with Food

What do halal and iftar mean? Learn about Islamic culture through food

Cross-Cultural Experience at the Kanda University of International Studies Cafeteria, Shokujin
Experience ‘Iftar’, the Meal that Breaks the Daily Ramadan Fast

2The Islamic observance of Ramadan in 2016 is from June 6 – July 5. During Ramadan, the first meal eaten each day to break the fast after sunset is called ‘iftar’. In this plan, participants can enjoy a buffet of halal foods including Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisine at Shokujin, the cafeteria at Kanda University of International Studies, in addition to a lecture about Ramadan and halal. With the recent increase in Muslim tourists, how about furthering your education and learning about other cultures?

▲The iftar buffet is entirely halal. Perfect for those who like Asian cuisine!

▲Shokujin is the first university facility in Japan to be certified as halal/Muslim-friendly

▲Dr. Saeed Akhtar from the Nippon Asia Halal Association will give an easy-to-understand introduction to Islamic culture
